Tell the Transport Select Committee what its REALLY like to be a rail passenger

The Commons Transport Committee has launched an investigation into 'the rail passenger experience', looking into what needs to change so that passengers can feel that our train tickets represent real value for money.

Let's tell them!

We're glad that the inquiry is specifically looking at smart ticketing and part-time season tickets. We think it's time that train companies stopped discriminating against part-time commuters, and we'll be recommending that the Committee put their weight behind this.

The Committee is particularly looking at:

  • Information provided to passengers before, during and after rail journeys. This includes information at stations, in trains and via National Rail Enquiries, operators' websites and online apps (excluding in relation to the process for claiming compensation for a delay/cancellation)
  • Ticketing, including smart-ticketing and part-time season tickets
  • In-train facilities, including on-train Wi-Fi and power

This is a great opportunity to tell MPs about the reality of using trains. It need only be a few sentences, but your views could inform the recommendations that the Committee will make to Government and the rail operators.

It's important that the Committee hear from ordinary passengers, as well as from civil society and industry groups. To submit your views, go to the Transport Committee’s inquiry webpage and use their online form to upload a Word document with your evidence. We’d also appreciate you emailing us a copy of your evidence (lianna.etkind@bettertransport.org.uk); we will use this to build our case for a fairer system for passengers, including part-time ticketing.
